El Oceano is, at heart, three things in one: a beautiful boutique hotel, an award-winning restaurant, and a premium pool and terrace experience. Each of the three is exceptional in its own right. The Hotel
El Oceano Beach Hotel has 55 elegantly appointed rooms, suites and self-catering apartments, the majority of which enjoy direct or partial sea views over the Mediterranean. The hotel sits right on the beachfront between Marbella and La Cala de Mijas — not near the beach, but on it, with the sand and sea a matter of steps from the hotel terrace.
Rooms range from well-appointed double rooms to spacious penthouse suites, with a full range of options in between — mini suites, deluxe mini suites, feature bath suites and studio apartments offering self-catering flexibility for longer stays. Every room is finished to a high standard, with quality linens, comfortable beds and well-equipped bathrooms, and the kind of care and attention to detail that reflects the hotel's family-owned character.
The hotel's facilities include an indoor pool and spa, a fitness suite, on-site parking, and the beachfront terrace that serves as the social heart of the property — the place where a morning coffee can quietly become an afternoon and an afternoon can equally quietly become an evening. Check-in is from 2pm and check-out by 11am, and the team at reception is always happy to assist with early arrivals, late departures, airport transfers, and any other practical requirements of your stay.
The Restaurant
El Oceano's restaurant is, without question, one of the finest on the Costa del Sol — an award-winning dining destination that attracts both hotel guests and visitors from across the region, many of whom make the journey to Mijas Costa specifically to eat here.
The menu is ambitious and beautifully executed, built around the finest local produce with a particular passion for fresh seafood and the broader flavours of the Mediterranean. The wine list is carefully chosen, the cocktail menu is excellent, and the standard of service is consistently high — attentive and personal without ever feeling formal or stiff.
What elevates the restaurant beyond even its exceptional food is the atmosphere. Most evenings throughout the season, live entertainment brings an added dimension to dinner — accomplished singers, musicians and performers who add energy and warmth to what is already a very special setting. The beachfront terrace, the sound of the sea, the quality of the food and wine, and the genuine liveliness of the entertainment combine to create evenings that guests return to describe, in their reviews and in conversation, as amongst the best of their time on the Costa del Sol.
Sunday lunch at El Oceano is a particular institution — a long, celebratory affair with live music that regularly extends well into the afternoon. If you visit on only one occasion, Sunday is the day to do it.
The Polynesian Pool & VIP Sunbeds
The Polynesian Pool is El Oceano's heated beachfront pool — a beautifully maintained, adult-oriented space right at the water's edge, with a swim-up bar, VIP sunbeds, and live entertainment most Thursdays to Sundays throughout the season.
VIP sunbeds are available to reserve for the afternoon — €80 Monday to Thursday, €100 Friday to Sunday — and each reservation includes towels, access to the heated pool, and personal waiter service. The pool is open to non-residents as well as hotel guests, and it is one of the most sought-after afternoon experiences on the Costa del Sol. The pool area operates a minimum age policy of 14 years, ensuring the relaxed, adult atmosphere that makes it the place it is.
