Where You’re Actually Going

El Oceano sits at Km 1026 on the coastal road, in Mijas Costa, directly on the beach between Marbella and La Cala de Mijas. It’s a genuinely short hop from the airport — around 30 minutes by car, covering roughly 40 kilometres of mostly motorway driving along the AP-7/A-7 corridor that hugs the coastline the whole way. You’ll pass Torremolinos, Benalmádaga and Fuengirola before the road narrows slightly and the hotel appears, beachfront, just past La Cala.

It’s worth knowing this stretch well, because it means almost every transfer option — taxi, private car, or hire car — takes a similar, predictable amount of time. There’s no awkward middle leg, no need to change at a station. It’s largely one road.

Your Transfer Options, Compared

Private transfer, arranged through the hotel. This is the option most of our guests choose, and for good reason — it removes the only genuinely stressful part of the journey, which is figuring out logistics after a long flight. Our Reservations Team can arrange a private car to meet you at arrivals, flight-tracked, with a driver holding a board with your name on it. You’re driven directly to the hotel door, luggage handled, no queuing.

Taxi. Málaga Airport’s official taxi rank is well organised, with white cars marked by a blue stripe, just outside the arrivals area. Fares are metered rather than negotiated, and the journey to El Oceano typically runs in line with the standard daytime per-kilometre rate, with a higher tariff after 10pm. It’s a perfectly good option if you’d rather not book ahead — you’ll usually be in a car within a few minutes of reaching the rank.

Hire car. If you’re planning to explore the wider Costa del Sol — Marbella’s old town, the white villages inland, golf at one of the courses nearby — picking up a hire car at the airport and driving yourself is worth considering. The route to the hotel is simple motorway driving, and we have ample private parking on site for the length of your stay.

Public transport. It’s possible to combine the airport train into Fuengirola with a local bus or short taxi the rest of the way, and it’s the most budget-friendly route if you’re travelling light and aren’t in a hurry. It takes considerably longer than driving, though, so it suits guests for whom the journey itself is part of the holiday rather than something to get through quickly.

What Arrival Actually Feels Like

However you travel, the moment of arrival is the same: you step out of the car, and the Mediterranean is right there. El Oceano’s reception sits just steps from the beach, with the sound of the sea audible from the moment you open the car door.

Check-in is from 2pm, with check-out at 12 midday — though if your flight lands early or your transfer is faster than expected, it’s always worth asking Reception whether your room is ready ahead of time. If it isn’t quite, you’re welcome to settle in at the restaurant terrace or by the Polynesian Pool while it’s prepared; this is, after all, a hotel built around the idea that the holiday starts the moment you arrive, not the moment a key card works.

From there, everything is genuinely close at hand. Direct beach access. A heated indoor pool and spa, and a heated outdoor Polynesian Pool with a swim-up bar. A well-equipped gym. And the award-winning El Oceano restaurant, with live music most evenings, just steps from your room.

A Few Practical Notes for a Smoother Landing

• Flight delays: if you’ve arranged a private transfer through us, your flight is tracked, so a delay doesn’t mean a missed pickup.
• Luggage and assistance: our Reception Team is available 24 hours a day for anything you need on arrival, from luggage help to a late check-in — simply dial 100 from your room once you’re settled, or speak to the desk on arrival.
• Currency and tipping: Spain uses the euro; taxi drivers don’t expect a tip, though rounding up is always appreciated.
• Time of year: the route from the airport rarely sees serious congestion outside peak August traffic, so the 30-minute estimate holds for most of the year.
